What Is Ceramic Coating?
Ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that chemically bonds to your vehicle's paint and leaves a clear layer of protection behind. Wax sits on top of the paint and wears away over time. A coating bonds to the surface instead, which is the reason it holds up longer than wax does.
What It Actually Does
- Water repellency: water beads up and rolls off, and it carries some of the dirt with it.
- UV protection: helps slow the oxidation and fading that sun exposure causes.
- Chemical resistance: adds a layer of resistance against bird droppings, tree sap and road chemicals.
- Easier maintenance: grime does not bond as easily, so washes tend to go quicker.
- Added gloss: deepens the paint color and gives it a richer shine.
What It Doesn't Do
This is where most of the marketing gets away from the truth, so it is worth being clear about the limits.
- It is not scratch-proof. A coating resists light scratches and swirls, and it will not stop a shopping cart or a rock chip.
- It is not self-cleaning. You still wash the vehicle. Washing just gets easier.
- It is not permanent. Every coating wears down eventually. A professionally applied one holds up considerably longer than a consumer spray-on, and how long yours lasts depends on the product and on how the vehicle gets driven and washed.
- It does not replace paint correction. A coating locks in whatever the paint looks like underneath it, so swirls and scratches have to be corrected first or they stay.
Who It Tends To Suit
- You plan to keep the vehicle for a few years.
- You want to spend less time washing and waxing.
- You care about how the paint holds up and you are fine paying more upfront for that.
- Your paint is already in good shape, or you are willing to have it corrected first.
Who Should Probably Skip It
- You are selling the vehicle soon.
- The budget is tight, and a good wax gets you protection for a lot less money.
- The paint has heavy damage that would need a lot of correction work before a coating would be worth applying.
What Does a Coating Cost?
We cannot quote you one, because we do not do them. What we can tell you is what moves the number: the product being used, the size of the vehicle, and how much prep the paint needs before anything gets applied. Paint with swirls or oxidation has to be corrected first, and that correction is its own job on its own invoice. Anybody who gives you a coating price without looking at your paint is guessing.
The spray-on products at the parts store are a different category. They cost very little, they wipe on in an afternoon, and they last a fraction of the time. They are not a substitute for a professionally applied coating.

We don't sell exterior-only or interior-only details. Every package covers the vehicle inside and out. Prices may increase depending on the condition of the vehicle.
Our Honest Take
If you are keeping a vehicle for years and you want the longest-lasting protection you can buy for the paint, a coating is a real product that does real things, and it is worth pricing out with a shop that installs them. It is not magic, it works best on paint that is already in good shape, and it still has to be maintained afterward.
